The Tri-County Arts Council is proud to present
“Yadahta:wak Hihšönya:nö' (Father & Son - They Make Things)”
Pottery, sculpture, and paintings by renowned artists Peter and Mike Jones. The work of both artists reflect their Native heritage and issues that have impacted the Hodínöhsö:ni:h  “People of the Long House”.

Internationally renown potter and sculptor Peter Jones, whose work is “neo-traditional” a modern take on pre-colonization Iroquois pottery forms that had died out in the 1500’s. Peter studied under Hopi artist Otellie Loloma while attending the Institute of the American Indian Art in New Mexico. His work is in private and public collections world-wide, including the Smithsonian National Museum of the American Indian and Heard Museum.

Mike Jones, who learned pottery from his father Peter, also paints and sculpts, taking inspiration from a diverse set of Native and Non-Native artists such as T.C. Cannon, Dan Namingha, Earl Bliss, M.C. Escher and Gustav Klimt among others. Mike’s work is in collections nationwide, including the Heard Museum, the Iroquois Indian Museum, and the Indian Arts and Crafts Board.

"Same Inside"
paintings by Karle Norman
August 6th - September 4th

Picture
“The Same Inside pieces ask the viewer to look past the external differences that can set us apart from one another. Our anatomy is trying to show us how much we have in common.”-Karle Norman

Karle Norman is an artist living in Buffalo, NY. Born into a conservative religious group that emphasized strict adherence to the Bible, he used art as an escape. Many hours were poured into his sketchbooks, something he still maintains 20 years later. Karle credits his grandmother, an artist herself, with instilling the desire to maintain a creative practice. His “Same Inside” series seeks to explore the relationship of our shared experiences to our physical differences.

"Ruminations Rising"
paintings by Michelle Capizzi
August 6th - September 4th

Picture
“In Ruminations Rising, the conversation centers on the uplifting energy of renewal, and pondering the rhythm that emerges when connecting to the muse that sets us free. I infuse those moments of joy into layers of paint, hues of positivity, and shapes that stimulate movement in body, mind, and spirit.” -Michelle Capizzi

Michelle Capizzi is a mixed media abstract painter.  Her paintings ignite conversation.  Every piece tells a story, has its own energy, and is deeply layered. She is fascinated by the dialogue among shapes, color, and texture, all interwoven with music. Capizzi found her way back to the canvas after a hiatus spent raising three sons, working as an art director, graphic designer, fashion stylist, and art gallery volunteer. Her past has established a fertile base for exploration and trust in her process.

Upcoming Artist Opportunity:

"A Little Something"
Last year's show was incredibly successful, and we know November seems like a long way off, but we wanted to give all regional artists a chance to start creating for this year's "A Little Something" Small Works Members Show.
This year the show runs November 19 to January 22 at the TCAC Gallery in Olean NY.

Here's the guidelines:

Artists must be a member in good standing of the Tri-County Arts Council (You can join/ pay your dues when you drop off the work). All media are welcome. NO REPRODUCTIONS! This is an originals only show (limited edition photography prints and print making such as woodblock prints are welcome)

Artists may submit up to three pieces, we will display at least one. The work comes off the wall as it sells, so we may ask you for a "restock" if you sell out. The TCAC will take a 25% commission on all sales.

Work must measure 12x12 inches (excluding frame) and under for 2D, 12x12x12 inches for 3d. (smaller works sold best last year. We recommend under 10x10 inches. Sets also sell well, so we encourage three of the same size/theme/framing style). Jewelry is welcome if you provide a display that measures under 12 inches tall (Jewelry can also be framed shadow box style for hanging)

Work must be ready to hang or display. 2D work must be wired, with D-Ring style hangers. No saw tooth hangers will be permitted. (We will be rejecting pieces not ready to hang) We recommend framing. Unframed canvases should have their edges finished. We recommend canvases be at least 1 1/2 inches deep for a professional look. Contact us at sdhuntingtonartscouncil@gmail.com for recommendations on affordable framing and materials.

Work must be delivered to the TCAC at 110 West State Street in Olean between Saturday, October 16th and Saturday, November 6th. We will not accept late entries. All work must be labeled on the back (on a piece of painters tape is fine) with your name, title, artwork dimensions (not including frame) and media. We also recommend artists put their contact information/ business card on the back (This show is about promoting YOU and your work). Please label any boxes/cartons that you brought the work in with your name and contact info if you want them returned.

We hope you will take advantage of this opportunity to show in the beautiful TCAC Gallery!
If you have any questions about the show, please contact TCAC Exhibition Coordinator Sean Huntington at sdhuntingtonartscouncil@gmail.com
