Wendy Bale "papercuts"
August 8 - September 18, 2020 Closing Reception September 12th 2pm-6pm Wendy Bale is an artist specializing in cut paper sculpture. Her joy is to establish contact through the mutual love of favorite nature subjects.
“This past couple of years I have tried several different techniques for paper cutting. It’s a very old practice, and I have found many traditional and modern ways of working in this fascinating medium. I have discovered my own combinations adding charcoal elements and have developed my own style through this exploration.” Paper Cuts is the artist’s first solo show of her cut paper artwork. The hand-done process uses knives, scissors, and even torn paper techniques. The work represents hours of learning, experimentation, and discovery. “It is my hope people will see simple paper and scissors in a new light, and imagine the possibilities.” Join Wendy Bale for a closing reception for "Papercuts". Wendy will be giving demonstrations and talk about her work and inspirations. *Due to Covid-19 social distancing requirements, we are limiting the event to groups of 10 with half hour time slots. Kari Roslund "Interwoven"
February 7th -March 26th Catered Opening Reception February 7th, 6-8 PM "I enjoy the process of taking fibers from their raw state and reworking them into a palette of lustrous vibrant silks and woolen vibrant tones. When I construct, I layer my hand worked fleeces and roving onto reclaimed textiles. This process creates a type of contemporary tapestry, bringing a three dimensional element to my impressionistic work." -Roslund |
"Luminous Landscapes"
an exhibition of scenes familiar to western New York, explores the play of light, color, and atmosphere on the landscape. Reminiscent of works from the Hudson River School art movement, the works reflect the grandeur of nature and share a reverence of the spiritual, offering viewers a space to reflect on the natural world and their place within it. The exhibition features a selection of 19th century paintings from JCC’s permanent collection as well as works by contemporary regional painters Thomas Annear of Fredonia, Thomas Kegler of East Aurora, and Mikel Wintermantel of Allegany, and large-format landscape photographs by photographer and JCC alumna Janelle Lynch. |
