Q. What's the deadline? A. The deadline to register is November 27 and delivery to the CCAC studio gallery is November 30, but we welcome early submissions.
Q. How do I submit work? A. In person or via mail to CCAC, 100 West Main Street, Allegany, NY 14706.
Q. Where does the money from the "sale" of my piece(s) go? A. All proceeds benefit the Cattaraugus County Arts Council (CCAC) as an important fundraiser that enables us to stay within our 2015 budget.
Q. Will the artists find out who purchased their artwork? A. Not from CCAC. The buyer will receive a customer receipt with the artist's name and contact information. The buyer may then contact the artist. Due to the scale of this exhibition, we are not able to provide the buyer's information to each artist.
Q. How will the work be sold? A. On December 3, 2016 CCAC's doors will open to the public at 6 p.m. for a kick-off party. General admission tickets are $15 each at the door, including refreshments and food. A limit of 30 first-pick tickets will be available at $50 each and can be purchased in advance. After the 30 first-pick ticket holders have chosen, all the artwork will be open for picking by general admission ticket holders. All 5" X 7" pieces are sold for $25 each and will remain for sale on the CCAC walls through the holiday season. [Please note, these event guidelines may change as we further fine tune the event. All changes will be publicized on the CCAC website and in email alerts.]
Q. If my piece does not sell during the exhibition will I get it back? A. No. Any donated works not sold by December 31, 2016 will be held for later sale. We reserve the right to sell works for less than $25.
Q. Will all artworks be displayed? A. CCAC reserves the right to reject any artwork that is determined to be inappropriate or too difficult to install.
Q. Do I need an art background to submit artwork? A. No. We encourage everyone to participate.
Q. Can I submit more than one piece? A. Of course. The goal is to gather many pieces of original 5x7 works of art. Each person may submit up to 10 artworks. Our overall goal is 400 pieces but we'd be thrilled with more!
Q. Can my piece be 3D (three dimensional)? A. If it is lightweight and is ready to hang with the appropriate hardware.
Q. Can I submit metal, ceramic, or fabric works? A. Absolutely--any medium is welcome as long as we can hang it. Please keep in mind that it will be hanging by thumb tacks/push pins, so when creating the work, consider how to hang the work when you create it (hole, wire, backer, etc.). Also, consider mounting delicate works to a 5" x 7" paper, panel, or board.
Q. I want to frame my pieces in wood frames, if I supply the hanging materials can I submit these works? A. No. The idea is to keep the works consistent and low cost for the artists. They can include a mat however with exact outside dimensions of 5" x 7".
Q. Does 5"x7" include a border or mat? Can my piece be smaller than 5 x 7 inches? A. The finished outside dimensions of the piece should be exactly 5 x 7 inches including any border and/or (optional) mat. Smaller pieces may be mounted to 5" x 7" paper or board.
Q. Can I submit a series? A. Of course. However we will not be displaying any series together.
Q. If the work is hung anonymously, will I receive any marketing benefits? A. We will be using artists’ names to market the event even though your work won't be labeled as such on the wall.
Q. Can I sign my work? A. Only on the back. The buyer will receive a customer receipt with the artist's name and contact information. The buyer may then contact the artist. Due to the scale of this exhibition we are not able to provide the buyer's information to each artist.
Q. Can I build a 5 x 7 video installation? A. No, but video and media based artists may submit a DVD in a 5" x 7" package.
