Christopher Tolbert is a sculptor living in the Southern Tier region of western New York. He mixes a wide range of materials; wood, glass and metal to create elegant, fluid sculptures that are derived from the combination of the human form and nature. Glass is a strong element in almost every one of his works. He received his BFA from the Columbus College of Art and Design and upon graduating became their Studio Manager for the ceramics, glassblowing and sculpture facilities. He held that position for nearly twenty years before moving to New York and becoming the Sculpture technician at Alfred University. Similar to our bodies, his work use symmetry in my sculptures to enhance each with an innate beauty and to add the human quality of individualism to each sculpture. All of these design elements work together to ensure the presence of the human figure remains evident while allowing the sculptures the freedom of abstraction.
